Adding a Component to a Product

3 min de lectura5 de abr. de 2026

Overview

Once a component exists, you can add it to any product. You specify how many units of the component go into one unit of the finished product. CrafterBy multiplies the component cost by that quantity and adds the result to the product cost breakdown.

Steps

  1. Open the product you want to add the component to (go to Products and click the product name).
  2. Inside the product, click the Components tab.
  3. Click Add Component.
  4. In the search field, type part of the component name and select it from the results.
  5. Enter the Quantity — the number of units of this component that go into one unit of the product.
    • For most components this is 1 (the product uses one instance of the component).
    • If a product uses two identical clasps, enter 2 and the cost doubles automatically.
  6. Click Add. The component appears in the product cost breakdown with its calculated cost.

How It Appears in the Cost Breakdown

The component shows as a single line in the product cost breakdown, labelled with the component name. The cost shown is:

Component unit cost × quantity entered

If you expand that line, you can see the detail of what is inside the component (its materials, labour, and machines).

Example

You are building the product Silver Drop Earrings. You add the Earring Hook Set component with a quantity of 1 (one pair of hooks per pair of earrings).

  • Earring Hook Set × 1 — €0.78

If you also make a Quad Earring Set (two pairs of drops on one card), you would add the Earring Hook Set with quantity 2:

  • Earring Hook Set × 2 — €1.56

Updating Component Costs

If the underlying costs inside the component change (for example, sterling silver wire goes up in price), you update the material price once. All components that use that material, and all products that contain those components, will show the new cost on the next recalculation.

Removing a Component from a Product

Open the product, go to the Components tab, and click the remove icon next to the component. This only removes it from this product — the component itself is not deleted.
