Tracking Material Stock

3 min de lectura5 de abr. de 2026

CrafterBy can track how much of each material you have on hand. Stock tracking is optional and can be enabled or disabled per material at any time.

Enabling stock tracking

  1. Open the material you want to track (from the Materials list).
  2. Scroll to the Stock Tracking section.
  3. Toggle Enable Stock Tracking to on.
  4. Two fields will appear: Opening Stock and Minimum Stock Level.

Setting opening stock

The Opening Stock is how much of this material you have right now. Enter the quantity in the same unit of measure the material uses (e.g., grams for a weight-based material, units for a simple material, metres for a length-based material).

This becomes the starting balance. All future stock movements (purchases received, production runs, manual adjustments) add to or subtract from this number.

Setting minimum stock level

The Minimum Stock Level is the threshold below which you want to be alerted. When current stock falls below this level, CrafterBy generates a low-stock alert.

Set this to give yourself enough lead time to reorder before you actually run out. Consider your supplier's typical delivery time and how quickly you consume the material.

Example: You have 2 kg of beeswax on hand. Your supplier takes 3-4 days to deliver and you use about 300 g per week. You set:

  • Opening Stock: 2,000 g (or 2 kg depending on unit setup)
  • Minimum Stock Level: 500 g — enough to keep working for about 1.5 weeks while awaiting delivery

Viewing current stock

On the material detail page, the current stock level is shown prominently. The materials list view also shows stock status at a glance: materials with adequate stock show in normal styling; materials at or below minimum are flagged.

Saving

Click Save after making changes to stock settings. Stock tracking does not start until the material is saved with the toggle enabled.
