Pricing Model: Dimensional (Volume)

4 min de lectura5 de abr. de 2026

The Dimensional (Volume) pricing model is for liquids and other materials you buy by volume and use in measured amounts. You enter the total volume and purchase price; CrafterBy calculates cost per unit of volume (mL, L, fl oz, etc.), which is applied when you specify how much a product uses.

When to use it

Use Dimensional when:

  • You buy the material in a container with a defined volume
  • You measure out a specific volume to use per product

Good examples:

  • Fragrance oil — 500 mL bottle for €18.00
  • Soy wax flakes (by volume rather than weight) — 1,000 mL bag
  • UV resin — 250 mL bottle for €22.00
  • Alcohol ink — 30 mL bottle for €5.50
  • Wood glue — 500 mL bottle for €7.00
  • Epoxy resin (part A or part B separately)

Setting up a Dimensional material

  1. Follow the steps in Adding a Material.
  2. Select Dimensional (Volume) as the pricing model.
  3. Choose the Volume Unit (mL is recommended for most craft liquids; L for larger containers).
  4. Enter the Total Volume of the container.
  5. Enter the Purchase Price for that container.
  6. CrafterBy calculates: Cost per mL = Purchase Price / Total Volume.

Adding it to a product

When you add a Dimensional material to a product, enter the volume used per product in the same unit. CrafterBy multiplies by the cost per unit of volume.

Worked example

You buy a 500 mL bottle of fragrance oil for €18.00.

  • Unit: mL
  • Total volume: 500 mL
  • Purchase price: €18.00
  • Cost per mL: €18.00 / 500 = €0.036/mL

Each candle uses 30 mL of fragrance oil.

  • Material cost: 30 × €0.036 = €1.08

A larger pillar candle uses 50 mL.

  • Material cost: 50 × €0.036 = €1.80

Two-part materials

For two-part materials like epoxy resin (resin + hardener), create a separate material entry for each part, with its own volume and price. Add both to the product at the appropriate ratio (e.g., 2:1 resin to hardener). This gives you accurate cost tracking if the two parts have different prices or come in different bottle sizes.
