Pricing Model: Simple (Unit Price)
The Simple (Unit Price) pricing model is the most straightforward: you buy a number of identical units at a total price, and you use one or more of those units per product.
When to use it
Use Simple when both of the following are true:
- You buy the material in countable, identical units
- You record usage as a whole or fractional count of those same units
Good examples:
- Glass jars — buy 100 at €45.00, use 1 per candle
- Wick holders — buy 200 at €12.00, use 1 per candle
- Hang tags — buy 500 at €18.00, use 1 per item
- Wax seals — buy 50 at €9.50, use 1 per envelope
- Zips — buy 20 at €16.00, use 1 per bag
Setting up a Simple material
- Follow the steps in Adding a Material.
- When prompted for a pricing model, select Simple (Unit Price).
- Enter the Purchase Price: the total amount you paid.
- Enter the Purchase Quantity: how many units that price covers.
- CrafterBy calculates:
Cost per unit = Purchase Price / Purchase Quantity.
Example: You bought 100 glass jars for €45.00.
- Purchase Price: €45.00
- Purchase Quantity: 100
- Cost per unit: €0.45
How it appears on a product
When you add this material to a product and enter a quantity of 1, CrafterBy adds €0.45 to the material cost. If you use 2 (e.g., two labels per box), it adds €0.90.
You can enter fractional quantities for materials where you sometimes use a partial unit, though Simple is usually not the right model in those cases — consider Weight per Length or Dimensional instead.
Updating the price
When your supplier raises prices, open the material, update the Purchase Price and Quantity fields, and save. CrafterBy recalculates the cost per unit and updates all products that use this material.
