Configuring Your Cost Settings

3 min de lectura5 de abr. de 2026

Cost settings are the defaults CrafterBy uses whenever you create a new product. Getting these right before you start adding products saves you from correcting values later.

Finding cost settings

Go to Settings > Cost Settings.

Hourly labour rate

This is what you charge for one hour of your own time -- or what you pay an employee per hour. It is used to calculate the labour cost on every product where you log time.

Set it to what you actually want to earn, not what you currently earn. If you want to pay yourself 15 EUR per hour, enter 15.00. If you employ someone at 12 EUR/hour and do some work yourself at a higher rate, you can set a default here and override it per product.

Example: A leather goods maker logs 45 minutes to cut and stitch a card wallet. With an hourly rate of 18.00 EUR, that labour step costs 13.50 EUR.

Waste factor

The waste factor is a percentage added to material quantities to account for offcuts, failed batches, and spoilage. If you set it to 10%, and a product uses 100g of wax, CrafterBy calculates the cost as if you are using 110g.

Set a value that reflects your process. A jeweller working with silver might have 5% waste (offcuts can often be reclaimed). A fragrance blender might have 15% because some product is lost in equipment and testing.

You can override the waste factor for individual materials and individual products.

Currency

The currency is set at the organization level under Settings > Organization, not in Cost Settings. If you need to change the currency symbol displayed, go there.

Saving changes

Click Save after making changes. New products will use the updated defaults. Existing products are not affected unless you explicitly re-apply defaults.
