Setting Up Stock Locations
Stock locations let you record where your materials and finished products are physically or logically stored. This is useful when your stock is spread across more than one place.
What a stock location is
A stock location is a named place where items are held. It can be a physical space -- a shelf, a room, a second workshop -- or a logical grouping that makes sense for your workflow.
Examples:
- Main Workshop -- where most raw materials are stored and used.
- Retail Display -- finished products on a shop floor or market stall.
- Online Fulfilment -- finished products packaged and ready to ship.
- Cold Storage -- temperature-sensitive materials stored separately.
- Consignment Store -- products held by another seller on your behalf.
Creating a stock location
- Go to Settings > Stock Locations.
- Click Add location.
- Enter a name for the location.
- Optionally, add a description to clarify what goes there.
- Click Save.
How locations are used
When you record a stock movement -- receiving new materials, moving finished products, or adjusting inventory -- you specify which location the stock is moving from or to. This lets you see stock levels per location rather than just a single total.
For example, if you have 500g of soy wax in your main workshop and 200g in a second studio, CrafterBy can show both figures separately, as well as the combined total.
Default location
If you only have one location, you can set it as the default so it is pre-selected when recording stock movements. Go to Settings > Stock Locations, open the location, and enable Set as default.
Editing and deleting locations
Locations can be renamed at any time. You cannot delete a location that has existing stock movements linked to it. Move the stock to another location first, then delete.
